We're homeowners!!!! (But not before some more drama went down).
BTW - we saw Avatar.... I'd give it a B+. Pretty, but VERY predictable and there were some really cheesy lines.
So- last week we were waiting on a money transfer - AND IT DIDN'T COME! The morning of closing, the money appeared, but our bank wouldn't cut me a certified check! They said the money hadn't been collected yet! I spent the better portion of the morning make phone calls between banks, to my realtor, my lending agent etc. To make matters even more complicated- the sellers were moving to New Zealand the following day - and they needed the money from the home sale in their account before they left for New Zealand, otherwise it would be counted as income and would be taxed at 20% (meaning about $40,000 out of their pockets). Needless to say, things were a little stressful.
As it turned out- my realtor works with the title company quite a bit, and basically assured them that we were good for the money, and they agreed to release the money to the sellers before I got my downpayment to them. We closed, the wife of the selling family cried quite a bit beforehand (they had lived there for 17 years), and we got a house! And now we're exhausted! Wednesday night we were there from 5:30pm-10pm stripping wallpaper, spackling, etc. Thursday- more of the same, but only until about 8pm. Friday- we were there prepping for painting until about 10pm. Saturday we spent about 12 hours at the house, priming, painting ceilings, etc. Today we were there for about 6 hours painting walls. Later this week we will give the walls their 2nd coats, and then we will begin painting trim.
We're painting 3 rooms (before we move in): master bedroom, guest bedroom, and office. We will probably end up painting the hallway/entryway/stairs before all is said and done... and paint a lot of trim.... and change some hardware on doors, and paint the built-ins in the family room.... and well, you get the picture.
Lots of work before we move in on Saturday the 30th. But then we'll be just about ready for visitors!
In other news, it looks like I'll be doing some traveling in the 2 months -it looks like I'll be going to a photoshoot with my boss in Chicago in February, and I'll be going to a conference in San Antonio in March. Fun!
All right. Back to packing. We've been taking a car (or 2) full of stuff to the house each day to try to make moving on Saturday that much easier. I'd like to only have to move furniture on Saturday as we also have an appointment to get our tv/internet installed that afternoon. Busy much?!?! ;)

Whooo! Glad you guys are getting settled! We've been thinking of you! Hope everything is going well, and you're enjoying the perks of homeownership!
